Great news for Nintendo Switch owners into surreal puzzlers: The Gardens Between is coming to your platform. Set to be released later this year, the game will be simultaneously released on the Switch, Playstation 4, Mac and Windows. The Gardens Between was one of my standout titles at PAX East 2018- while I played an earlier build of the game at East 2017, my attention captured by the game’s stunning visuals, the version I played in 2018 was better fleshed out, with more challenging gameplay that made great use of the game’s unique mechanics.
The premise of The Gardens Between is supremely clever; you don’t control the game’s two young protagonists- instead, you control the flow of time around them. As you pull time back and forth, you can affect objects in the environment, thus allowing them to advance. The game’s surreal locations are best described as dreamscapes; giant computer monitors and flowerpots and such litter the landscape.
